　　根据罗马时代的建筑家维特鲁威所著的现存最早的建筑理论书《建筑十书》的记载，建筑包含的要素应兼备用（utilitas，实用）、强（firmitas，坚固）、美（venustas，美观）的特点，为了实现这些特点，应确立艺术的且科学的观点。

　　要成功地完成每个建筑项目，有效的计划是必需的，无论设计以致完成整个建筑项目都需要充分考虑到整个建筑项目可能会带来的环境冲击、建立建筑日程安排表、财政上的安排、建筑安全、建筑材料的运输和运用、工程上的延误、准备投标文件等等。
